History of Oklahoma flag

The current flag of Oklahoma was adopted on April 2, 1925. The flag's design is rich in symbolism and represents the unique heritage and history of the state.

The original flag of Oklahoma, adopted in 1911, featured a blue field with a large, centered white star and the number "46" in the star's center. This represented Oklahoma's status as the 46th state to join the United States.

In 1925, a design competition was held to create a new flag. Louise Fluke, an artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, won the competition with her design. The flag consists of a field of sky blue with an Osage warrior's shield in the center. The shield is made of buffalo hide and is adorned with seven eagle feathers hanging downward. The shield is decorated with a white peace pipe, as well as symbols representing peace and unity.

Above the Osage warrior's shield is a calumet, or peace pipe, crossed with an olive branch. The calumet and olive branch are symbols of peace and goodwill. These symbols are surrounded by a bed of white roses, which represent the state flower of Oklahoma.

Below the Osage warrior's shield is a ribbon with the state motto, "Labor Omnia Vincit" (Labor Conquers All Things), written in white letters. The ribbon also features two blue stems of Oklahoma's official floral emblem, the Indian blanket flower.

Overall, the flag of Oklahoma is a visual representation of the state's Native American heritage, with symbols of peace, unity, and the pioneering spirit of its people.
